Photo Tips

Photo Tips 101: One myth is the mega pixel, have the most mega pixel is way over hyped. I know I got caught up in it myself. We had an image displayed on a billboard and it came from one of our first point and shoot 3-megapixel camera. It was a portrait of Charlie Draper, so it can be done. Anything over 5-megapixel is good for most situations. The software, sensors, and in camera processing are getting so good. I recall using Polaroids for the feedback that we needed back in the film days. We had to wait 60-seconds before seeing the instant image. Now we get instant feed back. My suggestion is to look at the displayed image, looking at the foreground, subject and background. Ask yourself how will it look if you took the same images from a different perspective? Many times it’s an easy fix as you can move closer or zoom in to the subject or step to your right or left sometimes will eliminate something. The goal is look for the details. Look around your subject. Lastly, learn from others where you can share your images on the internet. The net is full of sites that seasoned photographers are happy to give you their opinion. (You know what that’s like, everyone has an opinion). Some feedback can be critical so don’t take it personally. I know, I’ve been there. Remember the feedback is there to help you become a better photographer. Happy shooting. More next month.
