Photo Tips 101: We talked last month on mega pixels and perspectives. This month I would like to talk to you about brand names. What type of camera should you get? All the brand names ie, Nikons and Canons are all very good and you can’t go wrong with any of them. It’s like choosing a Ford or Chevrolet. I feel you should go into a retail store and look at the camera. Are the controls easy to read and use? How does it feel in your hands? Is it compact enough or is it too bulky? Sounds simple but you can’t do this online. Ask the sales person questions, how many mega pixels does it have, what type of batteries and flash card does it takes, does it include a recharger with the camera? How durable is the camera? How old is it, cameras are mini computers, if they are a couple years old, select a newer model. Does it have a decent zoom ratio? What camera has been the most popular thus far. What camera has been returned the most? Finally, read consumer reports on this year's electronic cameras. In my opinion you can invest around the $300 range and get a pretty decent point and shoot camera that will be compact, and produce good quality images that will be good for candid or vacation images this Christmas season.
