Newlyweds Wendy and Alan Kelly,

The couple was married at Harmony on Saturday, October 2nd, 2010. I have had the pleasure of working with the Kelly family before at April’s and Jamie’s weddings. After 30-years I still enjoy photographing weddings. Wendy was a beautiful bride and we had a great location. I found pockets of light in and around the clubhouse that worked well for the pre-ceremony images. The wedding ceremony was under a very large oak tree not far from the lake. At that time of day the lighting was directly overhead with lots of hot spots, the weather was warm and a ton of love bugs found themselves on Wendy’s white gown. As a wedding photographer we have to make it work under any/all conditions. The only way to get good quality lighting is to carefully balance the ambient light with an off camera strobe along with a can of OFF for the love bugs…lol. After the post ceremony traditional images I thought to myself, why fight the lighting conditions, you can’t change it!  As a photographer and having self-diagnosed ADD (attention deficit disorder) this could be a good thing. Ideas just pop into my head and with great subjects who are willing to do just about anything, they allowed me to be the artist. Seeing the sun coming through the trees, we positioned the bride and groom and we came up with some pretty amazing images. A flash on camera would not be powerful enough to balance such extreme circumstances. At weddings we use all of our experience and have to make split-second decisions with one chance to get it right. It may have looked easy when technically it was not. Tiger Woods makes hitting a golf ball look easy then when I try it every now and then the golf ball will go in the general direction I was aiming. Congratulations to the love bugs, Wendy and Alan. Thank you for allowing me to share with you on your wedding day.
