Brooke is a high school senior from OHS

We have had the pleasure of knowing Brooke since birth. Brooke is a senior from Osceola. What a beautiful young lady she has turned into. She has the height to become a model. Brooke is very involved with school activities such as cheerleading, cross country, swimming, water polo and her perfect day is going to the beach. The music she likes to listen to is hip-hop and rock and she enjoys spending time with her cat. It’s hard to believe she is now 17-years old and getting ready for college. WOW time moves so fast.  Thanks Brooke… it was a pleasure working with you.

Miriah a senior from HHS

Mariah: Is a senior from Harmony High School. Mariah is a dancer, I just love working with people from the arts, and they are comfortable in front of a camera. Mariah had a variety of clothing and props to select from; she even brought in a horse. This is the reason we do a pre-consultation prior to photo day, the more we know about you the better we can capture you. Mariah’s fondest memory is riding a horse. So I knew we had to capture that for her senior portrait along with her in a dance outfit. Her proudest moment is taking first place in competition. She likes to hunt, 4-wheel and mudding just to name a few. Mariah is pretty and a very “outdoor type person”. Thank you Mariah, I love the variety of ideas, props and outfits.

Message from Bruce

On a personal note: Many of us go through trials and tribulations. There is never a perfect time! I was watching a movie the other day with my oldest daughter. To make a long story short, the movie was about a daughter leaving home for college and her father was having a difficult time letting go. He has a video library of her at various ages of her life and as he was watching the tapes he asked himself “where did time go???”  Thirteen years ago that movie would not have touched an emotional cord like it does now! I have a feeling now that I have never felt before and I see things completely different than I did prior to having children.  There I was watching this movie with my 13-year old and I asked myself where has time gone?  In five years she will be ready for college. Don’t wait for the perfect time. The fact is the perfect time is NOW! No one is guaranteed a tomorrow. Even if you don’t commission us to create your family portrait, get it done somewhere. If not for you, do it for your family. It’s truly later than you think!

The Gassert Grandchildren:

The Gassert Grandchildren:

I have known Melody since high school.  The more I know her the more I admire her. You may recall Melody lost her husband Danny last Jan, hard to believe it’s been a year. Not long after the loss of her husband, she gets a call from her sister-in-law and asked her to help make funeral arrangements for her great niece of 11-years. How strong is she? She wasn’t sure she would be able to do it but she flew out and helped while giving God all the honor and glory even during the most difficult times, and I admire that. She commissioned us to photograph her three grandchildren with their cars. The cars have sentimental meaning to the grandchildren as it does to Danny’s children and daughter’s in law. The Gasserts joke is “they bought their grandchildren their first car”. Well when Danny found out he was sick, he asked Melody to order the third and final car, the youngest grandson (Dylan) was only 6-months old at this time. Mel went ahead and ordered it, as sick as Danny was he started putting the car together, taking breaks and working on it again. Danny was very good with his hands, one of the many gifts he had. He could fix or build just about anything. Darrell (his brother) came over to help him finish building and decaling the car when Danny was too weak. So when you look at the cars and appreciate the story behind them, they were built by their grandfather with love. The cars will be handed down to the next generation. Thank you Melody for showing me the strength of your faith, never wavering and for being a great example to us all. May God continue to bless you and your family. It's been one year ago today Dan went to heaven.

Photo Tips 2012

You got a NEW camera, now what?  Cool, congrats now don’t let the camera just sit in the box use it, start using it immediately. If you don’t use it you will lose it. Use it so much that the camera becomes an extension of you where you don’t even have to think about it and it becomes second nature. I’m a hands on person and once I use something and then refer back to the manual I can better understand it. First decide if you are a tripod person or a hand held photographer? I’m a tripod person almost to a fault, but I will make a friendly wager with you that99% of my images vs hand held will be sharper. I understand there are times when you simply can’t use a tripod, then use a monopod. That is the one leg pole that helps steady your camera. Lets take this new camera on a test run. Here is your first photo assignment.

1.      Interaction-please do not use people too simple

2.     Intersection-and no streets, again too simple.

Before rushing out to shoot the two above assignments give it some thought, think deep, think best lighting. And for these exercises you can use the auto modes, but I want you to use the manual mode as well. This assignment is to hopefully help you better understand the different using the auto vs manual modes. Look at things from a different perspective; be creative, I’m anxious to see what you come up with. No two people will see the same object, subject the same. I selected interaction and intersection for a reason, for one image think shallow dept of field and for the second shot same image, same locations, same perspective, don’t move think and try to get a large dept of field by using a large f/stop. Your f/stop is inside the lens and ranges from 2.8,4,5.6,8,11,16,22. F/22 Is like a pin hole. At f/22 does not let as much light in, longer exposure, possible camera movement, may want to use a tripod? F/22 gives you a larger dept of field. The other end f/2.8 is one of my favorites to blur out the background. It give your images very little dept of field. Would not recommend for groups or architectural type images. At f/2.8 it allows  lots of light you can then use a faster/shorter shutter speed. Two ways, manual and aperture priority. Outdoors use iso 200 is a good starting point. Good luck and again I will judge the images and have a first, second and third place along with a best of show. Send to bwpstudio@cfl.rr.com. By Jan 27. Judging will take place Feb 6th and I will post the winners on Facebook by Feb 8th. Good luck and happy shooting.

The Dunkley Family

We so appreciate repeat clients. We created Kendra’s senior portrait two years ago. After high school the family life changes, your son or daughter goes off to college and moves into a dorm or apartment, their bedroom at home now sits empty, their place at the dinner table now sits empty. Growing up and changing is hard, I know it’s bitter sweet to watch your children grow into young adults, hard to let loose of your child whom you raised, who relied on you for so many years. You hope the morals and values you taught them will carry on in them for the rest of their lives. Mrs. Dunkley felt it was time to update their family portrait. When I ask a parent when the last time was they had their family portrait created, many can’t recall, most say it was when their children where babies. Why wait? I have a family image next to my bed and it’s the first image I see when I get up and the last thing I see when I go to bed, the family portrait puts a smile on my face. Both of our girls were still young enough to sit on our laps. Emmy still feels the need even at 11. And I don’t stop her, although it hurts the legs now. Preserve those family moments, time moves so fast. Thank you, Dunkley Family, for entrusting bwp to create and capture your family history within a portrait.
